Topics of Learning (From MA Standards condensed )

Grades K-1

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: counting, addition, subtraction, shape identification and comparison, time, money, measurement, and place value.

  • Use of manipulatives, crafts, and games to reinforce mathematical concepts.

Grades 2-3

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: counting, addition, subtraction, foundations of multiplication, shape identification and comparison, time, money, measurement, perimeter, area, and place value.

  • Use of manipulatives, crafts, and games to reinforce mathematical concepts.

Grades 4-5

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: the four operations, factors and multiples,  fraction and decimal notation, measurement conversions, angles, and place value.

  • Use of word problems and practical, hands-on activities tied to student interests.

Grades 6-8

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: rates and ratios, rational numbers, exponents, solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, functional notation, common factors and multiples, variable relationships, and geometric equations.

  • Use of word problems and practical, hands-on activities tied to student interests.

Grades K-1

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: retelling; using context clues; identifying main ideas and details; interpreting text features; print awareness; phonics/ decoding; sight words; letter, word, and sentence formation; and responding to prompts with attention to task and purpose.

  • Use of read-alouds, partner reading, crafts, games, and short writing pieces to reinforce concepts, develop reading fluency, and build self-confidence.

Grades 2-3

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: asking and answering 5W questions; using context clues; identifying main ideas and details; interpreting text features; identifying parts of speech and sentence structures; writing opinion-based, narrative, and informative pieces; participating in academic conversations; and receiving constructive feedback. 

  • Use of partner reading, independent reading, games, projects, and short writing pieces to reinforce concepts, develop reading fluency, and build self-confidence.

Grades 4-5

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: making inferences, summarizing a text, using context clues, distinguishing genres and text structures, identifying point of view, writing pieces from a variety of genres using the writing process, understanding and applying Standard English conventions, developing research skills, participating in academic conversations, and utilizing constructive feedback.

  • Use of independent reading, games, projects, and short writing pieces to reinforce concepts, develop reading stamina, and build self-confidence.

Grades 6-8

  • Remedial, maintenance, and enrichment options available.

  • Target skills include, but are not limited to: identifying topic and theme; analyzing evidence, text structures, and genre characteristics; writing with details, evidence, and description; researching with online sources; understanding and applying Standard English conventions; distinguishing literal and figurative language; participating in academic conversations; and utilizing constructive feedback. 

  • Use of independent reading, projects, and longer writing pieces to reinforce concepts, develop reading stamina, and build self-confidence.
